Specialized Jaws Help You Get the Most from Your Brownells Bench Vise Jaw inserts slip over the factory jaws of your Brownells Gunsmith's Bench Vise and let you customize your vise for specific projects and types of workpieces. They are faced with different types of material that aid in gripping parts securely, while minimizing risk of damaging or scratching them. The insert bodies made of lightweight yet strong aluminum and are held in place on the vise by powerful rare-earth magnets. The aluminum material prevents the magnets from magnetizing steel parts held in the jaws. Prism Soft Jaws - Polyurethane prism jaw inserts are designed for securely clamping delicate round and oval workpieces without risk of damaging them. "Prism"-shaped cutouts of various sizes in the polyurethane help position the workpieces securely. The soft polyurethane face that is extremely flexible yet resistant to deforming or taking a permanent "set." Once pressure is removed, they will return to their original shape. This material also will not harden with age. Checkered Soft Jaws - These polyurethane jaw inserts have a unique "checkering" pattern on the gripping surfaces to hold delicate small parts without damaging them. The soft polyurethane face is extremely flexible yet resistant to deforming or taking a permanent "set." This material also will not harden with age. Prism Aluminum Jaws - These inserts have a hardness factor between that of copper and lead and are designed for securely clamping round/oval items in the Brownells Bench Vise. One horizontal prism-shaped cutout and three different vertical prisms are designed for securely clamping round or oval workpieces. The 90° cutout in the upper part of these jaws is designed for horizontal clamping of flat material. Grooved Aluminum Jaws - Help you securely clamp cylindrical work pieces in your Brownells vise. Six horizontal grooves hold workpieces securely in place, while a deeper center groove anchors bolts, rods, pins, and other cylindrical parts securely while you work on them. With a hardness factor between that of copper and lead, these jaws are naturally much softer than any steel item they will grasp, so you won't mar the work piece. Fiber Jaws - The dense fibrous material on the faces of these jaws securely holds finely machined or polished parts. The fibers will not mar the polished surface. The dense layers of fiber are heat-resistant and will not deform when clamping warm workpieces. Rubber Jaws - Designed specifically for holding very delicate wood and plastic parts, as well as thin-walled tubes, these jaw have a soft, synthetic rubber facing for gently holding fragile workpieces that can withstand only very light clamping force. The rubber material is backed by three layers of canvas, which counteracts the springy tendencies of the rubber and provides enough stiffness to hold the part securely. Felt Jaws - These jaw inserts have a felt face that is designed for clamping extremely delicate workpieces. The special abrasion-resistive felt material conforms closely the contours of the workpiece, so minimal clamping force is needed to hold the piece in place. Even the most delicate workpieces can be anchored without damaging them. Replacement Factory Steel Jaws - These are the same steel jaws that came installed on your Brownells Gunsmith's Bench Vise when it was new. Over time, the original jaws may become worn or damaged. They are easily replaced by simply removing the two bolts securing each jaw and replacing them with these. The bolts are inserted from the exterior of the jaw body, making them easier to install and less likely to be damaged. Like the originals, these jaws have both a smooth face and a "checkered" textured face. Use the side that works best for the project at hand.
