Got what i wanted(27.5.2016)
These do not have an anti-tilt follower. They have a cheap finish that rubbed off easily. Some looked used even before they were opened. I will probably repaint them.
Disappointed(18.8.2016)
The mags fail to feed the last 4-6 rounds. Not a quality product.
Great mag, great sale proce.(13.4.2018)
Tried out 3 of the mags, loaded 5 of them. All took 20rds. The three I used fed fine no issues. I'd say good quality. Look good. Great price.
Poor Quality(13.4.2018)
Light and thin mag-walls.
Follower jams and tilts, easily jammed without any ammo.
Looked for replacement followed. Found none!
Work flawlessly!(27.5.2018)
I purchased a bunch of these mags about 1 week ago, just tried out two of them in my POF USA P308 rifle. 16â bbl, suppressed, started with fully loaded mags and fired until empty. I tested both steel case and brass case ammo. Mags fed perfectly and bolt held open after last round. They donât quite want to drop free but I think that wonât be a problem after a little use. Mags weigh 4.8oz empty (a 20 round 308 pmag is 5.6oz IIRC).
Binding follower(29.6.2018)
I have bought these mags before and the function was flawless. This lot was complete trash however. The followers would bind on all but the last 3 rounds. Get it together Brownells and sell a product worthy of your name.
Well built mags!(26.7.2015)
These mags are very well built, strong and reliable. They are also made in the USA which is definitely a plus and carry the Brownells logo on the floor plate. The only reason I have given these a 3 star rating is because the follower is not an anti-tilt design like the ones found in Magpul mags, this could pose a feed issue.
Compatability test.....(14.6.2015)
The over all fit and finish of the magazines I received was good (hence the three stars) but ,I bought 2 of these magazines to test in a Ruger 7.62 rifle...(I always buy 2 incase one is defective)
They DID NOT work in my Ruger rifle at all....These mags weren't as draggy as the DPMS mags that I tested in the past but they still wouldn't feed 2 shells in a row.
I will not return them because I can use them in my Mossberg hog rifle but I will not buy any more of these for my Ruger.
Great Mag, Great Value!(25.6.2015)
Great mag for the price. Works great in my rifles!
Great Mag after rework(27.9.2015)
At First, the mags were disappointing, since the rounds would jam and crush the bolt would crush the brass.
I then open the tangs ( towards the front ) so that they would wrap around the brass and allow the tip of the bullet to angle up a little higher. I had to adjust both the tangs.
I now have flawless operations. The mags insert and eject flawlessly.
Great Mag, just know that if your rounds are jamming, then just modify the tangs. A very simple solution.
Will not work in AA 308 rifle, DPMS GII(30.9.2015)
These are the nicest made 308 AR mags I have ever seen, so I bought 3 of them. All three of them will not feed in a Adams Arms 308, or DPMS GII 308. They double feed every few rounds. These mags hold the ammo further to the rear of the mag than other makes of mags. This causes the rear of the cases to get hung up on the bolt stop, which causes the double feeds. I gave the three stars just for there quality construction. But they should add a note that the do not work on DPMS GII based rifles. I will keep them and use them in my Ruger Precision Rifle.
Compatibility Issues(16.11.2015)
These looked to be a good deal so I bought 4. None will function in my Larue OBR (DPMS pattern) AR-10. The upper portion of the feed lips interferes with the underside of the bolt carrier. From the other compatibility issues I am seeing in these other reviews it would seem something is dimensionally off. As others have said finish looks good but I would argue against quality construction with the fit issues.
Great for a SIG-716!(25.11.2015)
Bought them on sale for a SIG-716 and found them flawless. Reliable feeding and easy to care for. Will buy more!
Need improvement(30.12.2015)
Will not lock in to my Aero or DPMS with bolt closed. Spreading out when full loaded, Will not drop free even with loaded weight. Unloaded they fit fine.
Not Good(29.1.2016)
Bought 2 because they were on sale. Tried out 1 in my PA-10. Fits very tight, empty mag will not drop.
POF P308(21.2.2016)
I purchased one to try in my POF P308 and it functions perfectly
Not practical (2.3.2016)
Magazine are built tough and look good but that's it. Very difficult to load and continuously miss-fed on my M&P. The 20th round was very hard to get it, even when I pushed the inside all the way down it would put deep scratched into the casings. With the 20th round in the mag there is almost no wiggle room. I go to the range at least once a week and shoot between 150-400 rounds. I would not trust these mags in an life or death situation, okay for the range though. Okay for the price too.
Jams on the 3rd to last round. Not reliable. Not worth it even as a range mag. Disappointed in this Brownells product.
total junk(24.4.2016)
these suck. they look like they should work, but bgc will not lock back and they jam on the last could of rounds.
Failures to Feed(20.8.2016)
These magazines are nicely made, but appear to have a design flaw causing feeding failures. In my DPMS G2, I get a ftf on the third to last round almost every time, either firing or hand cycling. The cartridges do not feed smoothly from these mags; the rims hang up on the magâs ribs causing some erratic behavior. PMAGS or the DPMS original mags do not do this, they feed smoothly causing no jams. The DPMSâ ribs are in a different place, and the Magpul has no ribs. I believe if the ribs were to be redesigned the Brownells mags would function fine. As they are, they are very unreliable.
Good value, but must trim follower (13.10.2016)
I have used 4 brands of metal 308 AR magazines thus far and they all seem to have issues. One brand costs too much, one brand misfeeds, and two of the brands will not hold 20 rounds inserted into the rifle with a closed bolt. The Brownells magazines (Nov '14) are in this group, however the follower / spring permit filing 0.075" off the legs of the follower to allow the magazine to be properly seated. There is just enough spring clearance to do this. So far 140 rounds fired with no malfunctions.
Brownells- Please make these mags 0.1" longer.
Returned. too many FTFs(6.12.2016)
ordered 40 of these. appeared well made, similar to brownell's own branded ar-15 mags. I have a pile of those and they work just fine.
these are very similar to c products or asc mags. maybe they are and just branded brownells.
using an smith and wesson m&p-10 numerous, almost reliable FTFs with these mags when between 10 and 2 rounds were left. follower seemed to hang requiring magazine removal to clear. once mag was clear of rifle, often the motion would release the follower and it would snap back into place.
checked rifle, clean. checked magazine, clean. compared another brand of mag and it worked fine.
took 1 brownell mag apart and used a steel brush to remove some of the heavy anodization from inside the mag, where the follower would ride. polished the same surface with emory cloth.
mag now functions well and much less noticeable drag when depressing the follower into the magazine body under spring pressure. did this with 4 more mags. i seemed to have isolated the problem as the FTFs have been dramatically reduced. the follower moves much smother when depressed.
I'm keeping the 5 that I cleaned up, but returning the other 35. The time spent on each mag just isn't worth the trouble. took about 20 minutes to clean each one.
i think if the amount of anodization or whatever coating is on these mags was reduced they would function just fine.
Compatible with SCAR 17S Stryker lower (16.12.2016)
I bought a bunch of these around July 2016.
All 10 magazines have functioned flawlessly in my SCAR 17S fitted with the aftermarket Stryker lower.
I have fed nearly 20 different rounds through the magazines.
However, when loaded to full capacity, it is nearly impossible to seat them under a closed bolt.
My recommendation is predicated on my rather narrow use.
Unusable(26.12.2016)
I bought 10, because I thought this was a great deal. I was wrong.
They are very hard to load and you have to be extremely careful how you load each round, so it doesn't catch on the rim of the previous round. The follower has no lube and catches against the sidewalls and is difficult to move.
It takes like 40lbs of force to extract a cartridge from the magazine with my thumb, by sliding it forward.
These don't work in my POF P308 at all!
These don't come even close to the quality and usability of any other name-brand magazine. They shouldn't have even been put on the market.
Colossal waste of $140. I wish I donated it to wounded warriors instead.
Needs revision(5.2.2017)
These magazines are well sized and drop free in multiple lowers but simply do not feed. Constant bolt over base malfunctions that are corrected switching to another brand of magazine. These magazines are well priced but not worth the trouble.
Waste of money!(1.3.2017)
I bought 8 of these last year and had problems with them immediately, I really thought because they were metal they just needed to be broken in. Well, hundreds of rounds later they still mis-feed and cause jams. Not the kind of product I want to count on my life with.
Jammed (8.3.2017)
Bought 24 of these after trying a couple of them that jammed on the 2nd round I sent them back
Defective, don't buy(27.5.2017)
I bought four of these a few years ago and just now tried them out. All four jam on the fourth from last round in my PSA AR-10. Other magazines worked great. My issues seem consistant with other negitive reviews. I think the coating is too thick and too rough, magazine spring is too weak. Rather than try to make them work, I choose to return them. 5 stars to Brownells, return was easy and no problem. I purchased 4 DPMS steel magazines, even though they only hold 19 rounds, they are durable, well finished, and feed smoothly. Too bad, Brownell's ar-15 magazines work great.
Good Mags !!(3.8.2017)
I bought a few of these to try and they all held 20 rounds and ran 100% in my Armalite AR-10. After inserting them into the mag well a few times they do drop free when empty.
I would give 5 stars but they are difficult to lock into the well on a closed bolt. I'm hoping that this improves after more use.
I feel that these Brownells mags are a better choice to leave loaded in pouches than the Pmags without the covers in place.
I liked them and recently ordered 5 more.
Good and bad...(13.8.2017)
Sorry to say... the fit in my PA10 Gen II was less then stellar...
It had a tight fitting mag well from the factory, I burnished away that issue, Magpuls and Lancers drop free, loaded and unloaded.
Please bear in mind there is no "Mil-Spec" for AR10's ... so what didn't work for me... may work for you brand rifle.
Unloaded, they do not drop free, a gentle tug will remove them... and it will latch into place easily.
Fully 20rds and partially loaded ( 18 or 19rds ) will spread the feed lips just enough to make insertion and lock it very snug... snug enough that I had to firmly smack the bottom of the mag to get it to lock in.
This is why I gave it a "Cons, Poor Construction"... Feed lip spread makes insertion VERY difficult.
Feeding was flawless at the range, locking back after every last round even with my 18" barrel and its adjustable gas block restricting full gas flow.
And overall, the actual construction of the mag is very good, no sharp edges from the stamped aluminum, solid welds, smooth interior finish, the feed lips did not scratch the heck out of the case after feeding, mags were easy to load with all 20rds .308 rds.
The above comments are exactly why I also "Quality Construction".
If Brownells can fix the feed lip spread... I would buy dozens of these.
For range mags ... these will work fine in my PA10 Gen II.
But ,I strongly prefer my mags to drop free.. so I will not use them in Competition, matches, nor recommend them for any dangerous use, military, or LEO... nor self defense.
Again... These were my results from my PA10 Gen II with its tight from the factory magwell.... your "DPMS" pattern AR10 may fare better.
Mixed Results(24.8.2017)
I ran this in two different rifles with mixed results. It ran with no issues in a PA10 rifle with a Rainer barrel. And refused to run in an LWRC REPR. I ran both rifles with a mix of reloads and factory ammo so it looked to be a magazine issue with the REPR as the PMAGs ran with the same ammo without issue.
That said the magazines are inexpensive and light. Since they seem to subjective depending on rifles I'd order one or two and see if your rifle likes them before ordering a 5 or 10 pack. But if you get lucky there is a lot of value in them.
Been using for 4 years now.(13.9.2017)
I bought this Mag 4 years ago to use in my PA10 Gen I. When I first inserted it the Mag would not drop free. This was caused by the finish that was a bit thick and my Mag well was extremely tight. After about 5-6 magazine changes on the range it will now drop free. Again this due the finish wearing down and mag well breaking in a bit I believe. This issues was also present on my DPMS Mag until broken in.
When loaded it would take a bit of force to insert on a closed bolt (a good tap) but was fine on a open bolt. I have since tried it on a PA10 Gen II upper mounted on the original PA10 Gen I lower with out a issue on a closed bolt. I believe PSA corrected this on their Gen II receivers.
I now have over 600 round of M80 ball on this particular Mag. I have had only 1 fail to load which could have been ammo related (1997 OFV ammo). I have just order more of these since Brownells was so kind as to put them on sale and no shipping cost. ( yea sales!).
Doesnât feed correctly.(23.9.2017)
This magazine will seat well into the mag well but it will not feed Ammo into the rifle. I tried it on 3 different rifles. It says that it works for DPMS style rifles. This is incorrect as one of my rifles is actually a DPMS LR-308. Another is a Live Free Armory 308 and a Matrix Arms 308. This magazine will not work for any of them. When attempting releasing the bolt forward it causes the round to wedge upward between the feed ramps and the BCG.
All of these rifles use PMAGs and metal mags frequently.
Poor product, waste of money.
Ar10 lr308 mag(22.10.2017)
I purchased two of these mags just because of the reviews on them I only shot only a few rounds out of them but I can tell that they are decent mags the bolt stayed open on the last shot and and the mag drop free empty I have a Hell Fire Armory lower and upper receiver and it doesn't like certain mags but it definitely likes these mags I given five stars thank you Brownells
It looks cool, thatâs whatâs important.(17.7.2018)
Mostly a range shooter and hunter. Same problems as other users. My PSA PA-10 build runs all types of ammo from steel bargain bin to dirty South African surplus to the nice West German stuff, out of all magazines...except these. The ONLY problems Iâve ever encountered with my rifle were failure to feed issues when these magazines were in the rifle.
