Too Dull to Cut(7.5.2016)
The chamfer cutter bit that I was shipped was too dull to cut and when more force was applied, it still refused to cut, instead leaving score marks around the forcing cone. Now I'm forced to order another cutter in hopes that the replacement will be sharp enough to do the job and correct the damage. Not happy Brownells!
"Accurize" your .22 LR/Mag revolver(4.3.2012)
I found this product to increase the accuracy of my Smith & Wesson 617 4" 10 shot .22LR revolver. The forcing cone was scored from the factory (goes to show ya) and the timing was ever-so slightly off causing very mild lead-shaving. I used this product to extend the length and breath of the forcing cone to .325 long as compared to the ~.250 standard. This product eliminated the lead shaving completely and yielded a 1.25" 10 shot group @10 yards, sitting, two-hands, no rest with Remington golden bullets (ehh). The quality of this reamer is great, but not perfect. The 8-32 threads that are cut in the end to accommodate the guide rod actually were slightly visible in the machined groove. This didn't appear to effect the reaming and the cutting edge looks un-marred after a single use, bear in mind i used lots of cutting oil. This is a three groove reamer. Also, the guide rods that are sold to complete this tool are also constructed of steel; I would consider it a poor choice to use them in a steel barrel(steel on steel, not good). Rather, it was quite easy and more affordable to thread the end of an ALUMINUM cleaning rod and use it as the guide, it must fit the barrel snugly. Lastly, this tool did not come with any instructions and I would not recommend using this tool without professional assistance.
A great tool!(20.5.2012)
Completely eliminated lead shaving, and dramatically improved acuracy in my S&W 617.
Cuts very smoothly, and leaves a very fine finish.
Made my own pilot shaft from brass...should be a simple job for anyone who has a lathe.
Correct a manufactorers deficiency!(3.9.2012)
This tool works like a charm and is very easy to use. Go slow, use plenty of cutting oil and check your progress often and you will get professional results. The forcing cone on my Ruger Single Six looked as if it was cut using a chisel... but after using Brownwell's chamfer cutter, it looks perfect. I now get a lot less leading and the accuracy is much improved.
S&W 617-6(17.2.2018)
This is the rod for the 617-6. It is a snug fit but that's what is needed to keep the forcing cone cutter centered
